Who Inspects Boulder Kitchens

Boulder Fire-Rescue

Inside the City of Boulder, fire code inspections come from Boulder Fire-Rescue. Its Community Risk Reduction division combines engineering, education and enforcement, and inspects existing buildings and new construction against the fire and safety codes.

Outside city limits, in places like Gunbarrel’s unincorporated pockets or the towns to the east, your local fire district does the inspections. NFPA 96 sets the cleaning schedule either way.

Outside the city
Louisville, Lafayette, Superior and Longmont have their own fire services. Same NFPA 96 schedule.
What we leave you
A dated sticker on the hood and before and after photos of the hood, ducts and fan.

Kitchens Across Boulder

Downtown and Pearl Street are packed with independent restaurants in older, low-rise buildings. The cooking is easy to reach; the roof often isn’t. Tell us how we get up there, by hatch, ladder or neighbor’s roof, and we’ll plan for it before the night we come.

University Hill and the area around CU Boulder cook late for students, and the brewpubs and taprooms east of downtown run fryers and flat tops alongside the brewhouse. Wood-fired pizza ovens and smokers count as solid fuel under NFPA 96, which means monthly cleaning.

Boulder Hood Cleaning Questions

Do you come up to Boulder from Denver?

Yes. Boulder is a regular stop for us. We schedule the cleaning after you close, like any metro kitchen.

How often does a wood-fired pizza kitchen need cleaning?

NFPA 96 puts wood and charcoal cooking in the solid fuel group, cleaned monthly. Gas-fired pizza ovens usually fall in the every 6 months group.

Our roof is only reachable through the building next door. Can you still do it?

Usually, yes. Tell us how the roof is reached when you ask for a quote. If we need a neighbor’s permission or a key, we’ll sort it out with you before the night of the cleaning.
